If you want your kids to eat right, then it's up to you to supply them with the right food choices. With a little thought, you can easily come up with alternatives to the usual dinner and snack ideas. Here's a small sampling of some smart substitutions to start you on your way:

Instead of:
Hamburgers, hot dogs

French fries, processed potato nuggets, instant potatoes made with butter or margarine

Fried chicken and fish, commercial breaded chicken and fish preparations

Donuts, Danish pastries, croissants, toaster cakes

Chocolate-chip cookies, frosted cupcakes, brownies

Ice cream, milk shakes

Serve:
Lean chicken, fish, veggie burgers

Baked potatoes, homemade oven fries, mashed or scalloped potatoes made with low-fat yogurt or buttermilk
